5 Top Tips to Balance Studying & Blogging!

The key thing to life has to be balanced! There never feels like there’s enough time in the day to do both of these, but there are ways you can manage your blog and your studies; a happy medium between your career and a passion. I know first hand that doing both is not an easy task!

All those of you who follow my blog will know that I’m a first-year student at De Montfort University and am involved in a range of student societies, as well as being a blogger and influencer. I’ve always been a busy person, so managing my time is pretty important. Through this whole process, I’ve picked up some tips that might be helpful for you to know if you’re in the same boat.

CARRY A NOTEBOOK
Sounds simple, right? This can be very helpful and often will be a lifesaver as whenever you think of an idea you can jot it down quickly, not forgetting about it later in the day.

MAKE A SCHEDULE
Think about how many times you’d like to post a week/month etc and then see what is realistically possible because it’s likely you’ll want to take photographs to illustrate your writing and you may want to create a graphic… and of course you’ve gotta write your post too, so factor this in.
For me, I’d like to post 3 times a week- so I aim to post every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday but this doesn’t always happen and that’s okay! There’s always gonna be times where you are busier, so try and write ahead of time and schedule your posts.

SAY NO
I know how difficult how this can be, but sometimes it’s necessary. It’s okay to do this, chances are you’ll get a similar opportunity at a later date when you’re free from the commitments of education.

SCHEDULE POSTS
This is something I’m still pretty awful at doing, but maybe putting it on here will make me do it more but by doing this, you can relax and still ensure your readers are seeing new content!

HAVE FUN!
Life is too short to worry about the things you can’t change and everything that is meant to be will happen, even if it takes longer than you think it will to get there! It’s important to have goals but don’t lose your passion by working too hard, give yourself a well-earned break once in a while and remember to enjoy every moment.

All this will be super relevant to me for the next 8 weeks with numerous deadlines and exams peeping round the corner, so if you don’t hear from me as much don’t worry I haven’t done a runner, I’m probably just in the library!

How do you find balance in your lives? I’d love to know.

Until next time,

  1. Scheduling posts in advance does wonders for me. It has always kept me on schedule and posting regularly! Also carrying around a notebook is something I’ve recently started doing as well!

  2. Great tips here, Emily. I always carry a notebook, although it’s usually to give Flora (my 8 y/o) something to doodle on, haha. I do have a blogging schedule of sorts but sometimes life gets in the way and things slip. You’re so right about learning to say No though, it’s something I struggle with but I know I need to try harder! Good luck for the next 8 weeks, I hope all the studying goes well! x

  3. This is a great post with great tips for anyone in this situation. I’m really quite glad blogging wasn’t really a “thing” when I was in school. Well, it probably was but I wasn’t aware of it at all! I’m not sure how I would have prioritized xxx

  4. I never really got the hang of studying whilst blogging – I either threw myself into one or the other, often using the opposite as a form of procrastination. Having a schedule stressed me out, so I just did it whenever I felt like it. I definitely would not be able to hack blogging full time and posting every day, I am so easily distracted.. since starting to write this comment I have taken a walk up the garden to see my cat and made myself a coffee.

These tips seem really useful though, thanks for your insight!

  5. These are some really good tips. The notes section on my phone is always full of random ideas I’ve had halfway through doing something haha! I feel like I’m always saying I’ll write in advance and schedule posts, but I never do it. Hopefully I can use your tips to get ahead of myself!
